
Funeral Mass for Mary Lou Escobedo, age 86 of Seminole, Texas, was celebrated Monday, October 5, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Eduardo Teo officiating. Burial followed at Gaines County Cemetery. Rosary was held at St. James Catholic Church Sunday, October 4, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. All services were under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
Mary Lou Escobedo was born on April 4, 1940, to Louisa (Aguirre) and Carlos Valverde. She married the love of her life, Caterino Escobedo, on July 22, 1957, in Ft. Davis, Texas. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society. Mary Lou attended Blackwell School in Marfa, Texas. She worked for Seminole ISD for 32 years and was a Pink Lady for Seminole Memorial Hospital. She loved traveling as well as shopping with her daughter; she also loved taking pictures of family, scrapbooking, baking, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Mary Lou Escobedo passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, October 1, 2026, at her home in Seminole. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Catarino, in 2022; two sons, Johnny and Reno Escobedo; and two brothers, Ruben and Nolberto Valverde. She is survived by two daughters, Delma Gusman of Wolfforth, Texas, and Norma Medina and husband Jesus of Seminole; four brothers, Luis Herrera of San Angelo, Texas, Carlos Valverde and wife Janice, Jesse Valverde, and Bernardo Valverde, all of Denver City, Texas; three sisters, Otilia Thompson, Pauline Rivas and husband Lupe, both of Littlefield, Texas, and Ramonia Diaz and husband Milo, of Corpus Christi, Texas; seven grandchildren, Rebecca, Kimberly, Amanda, Laura, John Paul, Melinda and Cathy; and 13 great-grandchildren.
