“Thank you for saving the paper,” a few people told me as I attended open studios over Chinati Weekend. It was gratifying to talk openly about the future of The Big Bend Sentinel after working behind the scenes for so long. I met so many wonderful people who are excited to see the paper on newsstands again. After a four-month absence, it was a good sight to see.
We will be printing the paper bi-weekly for the remainder of the year as we rebuild the business structure and cash flow. We will still be publishing a twice-weekly newsletter and stories on our site covering breaking news. I remain dedicated to bringing back the print edition full-time. We are actively seeking to raise $250,000 to ensure the solid financial foundation that print news requires. There is a bright future ahead, but we are still navigating a transition period.
Thank you for the continued support and patience. I deeply appreciate all the kind words and offers to help. I want to hear all the ideas and comments on what you’d like to see with the paper. This will be a team effort to build the print edition that the Big Bend region needs and deserves. If you’re able, please give a donation of time, money or ideas to support the paper. My door is open.
Respectfully,
Kate Bubacz
Executive Director
