PRESIDIO – The Presidio City Council voted to increase rates on water and landfill usage in an ongoing bid to raise revenue. All water and landfill base rates will increase by 2%. Customers who use more than 2,000 gallons a month will see their usage rate increase to $3.75 per thousand gallons, a $0.25 increase.
“A small increase is fair to the city, and it won’t hit the citizens that hard,” said Mayor John Ferguson. The council deliberated a larger increase, but decided that a smaller increase made more sense, along with repairing water meters and exploring how this impacts customers.
Similar caution was extended to the landfill ordinance, which passed with a caveat to explore how the Presidio landfill rate compares with others. The new rate will be $72 per ton, or $3.48 per 100 lbs. The recycling center in Presidio has a separate rate for cardboard.
The council also voted to allow game rooms within the city regulated by a variety of provisions in a city ordinance and to move forward with the interview process for two candidates for city administrator.
