
ALPINE — On Saturday at approximately 1 p.m., the Alpine Fire Department was notified of a “fast-moving brush fire” on West US Hwy 90 near the roadside park on the westbound side, according to a department news release. Upon arrival at the scene, crews noted the fire had grown to significant size. The Texas A&M Forest Service and Marathon Volunteer Fire Department were both requested for additional resources, and fire growth was stopped quickly. The fire grew to encompass approximately 33 acres spanning rough terrain. Air assets were able to determine no other fires spurred from the main incident. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
