MARFA — Marfa City Council members will meet this Thursday to interview candidates for the available city manager position.
Previous City Manager Mandy Roane resigned from the position on September 18 after over four years in the role. Shortly after council members passed a resolution appointing City Secretary Kelly Perez as interim city manager.
The job application was then posted publicly, with a deadline of November 7. A hiring committee made up of Mayor Manny Baeza, Council Members Eddie Pallarez and Mark Morrison and Police Chief Gilberto Carrillo was formed in November to narrow down applicants.
Baeza said the city received a total of 12 applications for the city manager position. On Thursday he and council members will interview four of those candidates, one of which is Perez, he said.
It is possible that council members will select a final candidate and vote to hire a new city manager on Thursday, Baeza said. If that does not happen, the effort to fill the top administrative role will likely stretch into the new year.
