MARFA — Wrong is thrilled to present new work by Marfa resident Alyse Ronayne (Opal Rugs) with an opening Friday, April 25, 5 to 7 p.m. at 110 Highland Street.
The exhibition will feature three ambitiously sized wool rugs (5’ x 5’) in the main gallery space and a collection of smaller rugs in a range of styles — graphic cherries to a dripping neon camo pattern, plus several samplers showcasing the artist’s personal lexicon of shapes and icons. Also in the main gallery space are six stools adorned with custom-sized ass rugs.
The front gallery will feature three small-sized rugs (24” x 36”) paired with three framed collaged drawings (22” x 30”) of similar iconography.
“I consider drawing to be the backbone of my artistic practice, whether it’s charcoal on paper or wool yarn into a rug,” Ronayne says. “I work out my ideas on paper and then into wool. I like the challenge of translating what I see into a flattened, two-dimensional, drawn image. My drawings are a combination of observation and recall; many things drawn twice, the conflation of script text symbol code punctuation initials emblem diary.”
The exhibition will run through May 26. The event coincides with the opening of the Wrong Bar. Everyone is welcome.
