MARFA — A new scoreboard for Vizcaino Park will be made possible thanks to El Cosmico, which recently agreed to donate $9,000 to the county for the initiative, brought forth by the local sandlot baseball team Los Yonke Gallos de Marfa. County commissioners approved the donation this week.
The county voted in March to donate an additional $1,000 for the scoreboard, with the baseball team also raising some funds. The current scoreboard is obsolete and inoperable, according to team managers. County Judge Joe Portillo expressed gratitude to hotelier Liz Lambert for the donation. The existing El Cosmico will close on July 1 as the business shifts its focus to its new location near Antelope Hills, much closer to Vizcaino, where the Trans-Pecos music festival typically sponsors an annual baseball game.
