PRESIDIO COUNTY — In a news release on Wednesday morning, Presidio County Judge Cinderela Guevara announced 37 new confirmed coronavirus cases in Presidio County, bringing the total to 188 cases. Of those cases, 29 were in Presidio, five were in Redford and just three were in Marfa.
It’s the biggest local spike since the pandemic began, but the data is already out-of-date, with almost all of the patients coming out of quarantine by the start of next week. The news follows on the heels of a state announcement last Friday, when the Texas Department of State Health Services also added 37 cases to Presidio County.
Just six of the cases involved children or teenagers, including four in Presidio and two in Marfa. That fact — coupled with the low number of new Marfa cases — raises the promising possibility that the outbreak at Marfa schools could be waning.
In her news release, Judge Guevara once again warned that people violating quarantine orders could face misdemeanor charges for deadly conduct. “THIS REITERATES THE NEED FOR PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY,” she wrote. “YOU MUST PROTECT YOURSELF AND OTHERS.”
