FORT DAVIS — Beautiful golden barrel and claret cup cactus, Faxon yucca, sotol, Queen Victoria agave, and many other species totaling more than 1,000 plants, have arrived at the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute in preparation for the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center cactus and succulent sale.
The sale kicks off on Monday, March 11, with the front gates open at 9 a.m. Having ordered about three times more plants than at past sales, the sale promises to be one for the record books.
All plants offered in the sale are native to the Chihuahuan Desert. Each plant was carefully sourced through reputable growers in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Pricing will range from $5 to $150.
The sale will take place on the porch of the Powell Visitor Center with CDRI’s knowledgeable Head Gardener, Faith Hille Dishron, and CDRI’s volunteers to assist shoppers with their selections.
The Cactus and Succulent Sale is one of only two yearly CDRI fundraisers, the other being the BBQ and auction scheduled for August 10, 2024. CDRI invites you to come out and support your favorite area nature center and botanical gardens by finding that perfect cactus you’ll need for your home collection of distinctive cacti and succulents.
