MARFA — Marfa’s volleyball team put the finishing touches on their perfect undefeated district record by defeating Sierra Blanca in three sets Tuesday evening on the road (25-14, 25-18, 25-14).

The Lady Horns relied on steady team defense throughout the game and strong serves on offense. The greatly anticipated championship trophy presentation was a culmination of several months of hard work and sacrifices by each of the team members and their coaches. Many Shorthorn fans made the drive to Sierra Blanca to celebrate the team’s accomplishment. Head coach Priscila Serrano states she is very proud of the team’s growth, discipline and achievement thus far and knows the team must refocus as they enter the UIL State Volleyball Playoffs, which begin next week.
By securing the number one seed in District 4-1A, Marfa will get a bye in round one and will play the runner-up or third place team of a northern district, which will take place between November 7-9; details will be available as soon as the winner of that game is determined.
Cross-country Lady Horns see success
The Marfa Lady Horns continue to dominate on the court and in cross-country by winning the district title at the district cross-country championships. Members of the team included Dariela Munoz, Giselle Torres, Loretta Rivera, Zoey Salgado, Ava Flores, Raven Martinez, Itzel Urrutia, and Alyssa Harden. District cross-country champion and regional 8th-place finisher, Francisco Rosas, now heads to the state XC championships this weekend with the starting gun firing off at 8:30 a.m. at Round Rocks’ Old Settlers Park.
Football teams head to final home games
Marfa’s football team heads into their final home game of the season and will host Garden City with JH playing at 5 p.m. and varsity starting at 7:30 p.m. The Horns have a matching record with Garden City at 2-6 overall and 0-2 in district play. The Horns look to win their first district game on an evening set to honor seniors Diego Jurado, Derick Campos, Janaya Villa and Francisco Rosas.
