The American Radio Relay League’s (ARRL) Field Day event starts midday Saturday, June 27, and runs through midday Sunday, June 28. Each June more than 31,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill, and service to our communities and nation. It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event. Field Day has been an annual event since 1933 and remains the most popular ham radio event.
As they have done since the early 1970s, the Big Bend Amateur Radio Club will participate in this year’s Field Day and will operate from the Double Diamond Pavilion located south of Alpine on Highway 118. You can’t miss it –– just look for the radio antennas on the south side of the highway at the old Double Diamond Store. You are invited and encouraged to visit and see some of the activities ham radio operators engage in during emergencies and to practice their skills. We hope to see you there!
