Compilation of Big Bend songs benefits nonprofit
Sing Across the Borderline is a compilation of music for Big Bend, is a joyous expression of solidarity by 42 Texas-based artists and artists with ties to Texas issued by Dear Life Records. Artists with ties to the Big Bend region include: Veronica Anne Salinas, Nicolas Hurt, and Bill Baird.
All funds raised by this comp go to the Big Bend Conservation Alliance, envisioning the Big Bend region thriving — our land, water, skies, and all their inhabitants connected in healthy balance with equity and environmental justice for all—as we care for and learn from each other.
Meet and greet with congressional candidate set for Sunday
District 23 Democratic contender Katy Padilla Stout will hold a meet and greet this Sunday, August 30, at the Jeff Davis County Democratic Party Office, 103 State Street, from 2-4 p.m. Free snacks will be provided
Stout is a lifelong Texan, wife, mother, attorney and former public-school teacher. As an elementary school teacher. She faces Republican nominee Brandon Herrera in November.
Pride Marfa announces venues and line-up
Pride Marfa returns September 11–13 for its fifth annual celebration, inviting residents and visitors alike to experience a weekend of art, music, film, performance and community in the heart of West Texas.
“At its core, Pride Marfa is committed to giving the queer folks of Far West Texas a space to celebrate themselves and the art they create,” said Prepney, Creative Director of Pride Marfa. “There’s often this myth that’s perpetuated that queerness and queer people don’t exist in rural places. Queer people are everywhere and always have been. With this festival, I want people to know that we’re here and we’re not going away.”
Throughout August, Pride Marfa will unveil the rest of this year’s lineup, which includes performances by Amarji King, p1nkstar, Circe, Louisiana Purchase, Salem Purchase, HYPERFEMME, jewels, Khloe Kaliente, XQZ ME and Prepney. The celebration begins on Friday, September 11, with a screen printing workshop at the Chinati Foundation. Then later the fun continues with Disco 2000, a Club Kid-themed dance party at Planet Marfa, where doors open at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, September. 12, the community is invited to explore Marfa through a Community Art Walk featuring work by Amina Cruz and Diego Mireles Duran from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m., celebrating local and regional artists in creative spaces throughout town. Festivities continue into the night with Rodeo Kink at The Capri, opening its doors at 8 p.m.
To close out the weekend, guests are invited to unwind during Pool Hangs at The Pool, offering one final opportunity to celebrate together. Senator Blanco donates over 900 backpacks
El Paso
Senator César J. Blanco wrapped up his 12th Annual Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway Series, providing more than 900 backpacks to students across Senate District 29 ahead of the 2026-27 school year. This year’s giveaways were held at Desert Wind Elementary School in Socorro ISD, Capistrano Elementary School in Ysleta ISD and Terlingua CSD.
Each year, schools are selected using the Texas Education Agency’s Economically Disadvantaged Status Reports to help ensure backpacks and school supplies reach students and families who may need additional support as they prepare for the new school year. “Getting our students ready for a successful school year starts with making sure they have the tools they need to walk into the classroom with confidence,” Blanco said.
